I have a variable-sword. I urge calm.
Today I've spent all the spare moments between taking calls in working out who to feature tonight. That was a total of one minute 37 seconds, so my planning hasn't progressed very far! So I'll plunge into one of my obsessions and probably miss out someone obvious.

The theme for tonight will be Spike/Tara. Not that these authors do only Spara, and not that others I've already recced don't. but these seem to fit this grouping particularly well.

First has to come Miranda. Writer of the story that I chose as my favourite BtVS fic of all time when I was pinned down to one, the beautiful Spike/Tara story "Quiet As A Mouse"; and also co-writer with Sally of the hot and tender and funny and sweet Spike/Buffy/Tara threesome "9 Lives". Miranda's also written some wonderful Spuffy stories, such as "Adversaries", "Judgement", and "The Ties That Bind"; and also some AtS stories such as the post-NFA "Battling Towards Contentment" that are excellent too. She can capture all the various aspects of Spike and Buffy's personalities with equal skill, and the Tara she draws in "Quiet As A Mouse" is utterly compelling.

missmurchison writes many pairings with consumnate skill, and her Spike/Joyce series is so funny and sexy and witty that I've read it over and over again. Her Spuffy epic "The Chiaroscuro Series" is outstanding. And yet "Quick and Bitter, Slow and Sweet", her Spara story, outshines even those great stories. Humour, and angst, and warmth, and ultra-hot romance. Just stunning. Find these stories (and other excellent works) at Chiaroscuro.

desdemonaspace's stories appear at the spiketara community. Her current WIP, "The Long And Winding Road", is a time-travel story in which Spike and Tara accidentally go back to 1880 and develop a sweet and tender relationship while struggling to get back to their own time and dealing with unexpected and deadly enemies. The romance is gorgeous, the period detail and atmosphere is all there but doesn't overwhelm things, and she can really write fight scenes. She says she can't, but she most certainly can. Highly recommended.

Girl With Journal, who I read at her page on All About Spike, did a story set in the Summer of Buffy Being Dead, "Summer of the Snake", that was almost unbearably beautiful and poignant.

Also at All About Spike are Anne Hedonia and Jodyorjen, the two writers who first introduced me to Spara, and estephia, who is also one of the mods of spiketara. Well worth reading.

I've already mentioned nihilistbear, theohara, calove and bogwitch, all great Spike/Tara writers, in other categories; and there are two others still to come who would have been mentioned here for their great Spara if they weren't even better at Spuffy. Devastatingly good. Who are they? Stay tuned, don't touch that dial, all will be revealed.

Current Mood: mellow mellow
Current Music: Jethro Tull, "Witch's Promise"

Thanks, man! You are so sweet! *smooches you* But you know very well how much help I had with the fight scenes, both from the big jarhead and from you!

Oh, yes, Anne Hedonia...she's my idol. And Jodyorjen's Spara is yummy, too. More recently, I'm forcing myself to stay away from Miss Murchison's updated WIP (much as I want to read it!) since I'm embroiled in my own fic.

PS I finally read I Am The Walrus yesterday, and was earwormed with various Beatles songs for the rest of the evening, thanks to you. Now your icon makes sense to me.

My help with the fight scenes was minimal; all I did was tell you a technique I use and suggest a change of gun, you did the rest (recruiting Frank counts as Research).

You may want to go look at my third from last post.

Oh, I'd seen it, I was just rather at a loss for a suitably witty reply. I've given up now and just gone with a platitude.

Yes, but you're at a disadvantage. I have a whole theme thing going. I just finished looking at the Vanity Fair "Hollywood" issue with all those Annie Leibowitz group photos. So, I've grouped writers together in arbitrary and capricious settings.

Quiet as a Mouse! 9 Lives! These were my Spara inspiration.

9 Lives would definitely feature in my fic top ten (if I did such things)
