Going Postal - Words in the Heroes' Tongue
I have a variable-sword. I urge calm.
Going Postal
I wasn't impressed by 'Hogfather'. I thought the mash-up of 'The Colour of Magic' and 'The Light Fantastic' was only passable.

But the first part of 'Going Postal' has been the best two hours of television I've ever seen. Is it just the absence of David Jason that makes the difference?

Really? I got bored and actually switched off.

To me, Pratchett is rapidly approaching 'unfilmable' status unfortunately. Can't put a finger on just why it doesn't work for me, but I just don't *believe* it.

I thought the acting was very good, but all those bloody adverts.

The massive quantity of adverts is because it is the television event of the year - and no, I haven't forgotten it's a World Cup year.

What's the World Cup?

Oh, you mean that thing that keeps the old man occupied while I read my fanfic?

IMO they have completely mis-cast everything I've seen.
Alan Rickman is Vetinari and Eric Idle is the only person I can see as Rincewind.

Charles Dance is almost as good as Alan Rickman and, as Rincewind isn't in this one, they haven't ruined it by inserting David Jason. For a while I was terrified that they'd wreck this by casting David Jason as Adora Belle Dearheart but thankfully they resisted that temptation and cast Claire Foy - and she is absolutely wonderful!

Hopefully it'll show up online so I can assess it for myself...

Don't know what it is about this one but it was crackingly good. MWNN has problems with fiction of any kind. Suspension of disbelief doesn't come easily to him, but he was hooked right from the start and is definitely going to watch Part Two.

He did quite enjoy Hogfather - said it was like a children's pantomime and very good Christmas family-viewing.

I think it's the absence of David Jason and the Stupid Fat Hobbit, and the presence of the delightful Claire Foy, that makes the difference.
