Tears streamed down Buffy’s face as she tipped the shovel and deposited a pile of earth into the grave. Soil flew into the air as she swung the shovel again. She let more dirt fall onto Giles’ body. The cycle repeated, over and over again, for what seemed like hours.
“The hardest thing in this world,” she sobbed, “is burying my Watcher.”
Xander, looking on, frowned. “I don’t want to criticize, Buff,” he said, “but maybe that’s because you’re doing it all wrong. I can’t help thinking that it would have been a lot easier if you’d killed him first.”
