Drabble: Protective Custody
Here’s a quick drabble that suddenly occurred to me. An alternative way that BtVS Season 5 might have gone. 100 words, G.

Protective Custody

“The Beast has located us,” said the Abbot. “We must send the Key to the Slayer. Only she can protect it.”

“Which Slayer?” asked Brother Jaroslav. “There are two now, remember.”

“To the one who can protect it best, of course,” the Abbot replied. “The Beast approaches. We must hurry. Summon the rest of the Order, without delay, so that we may perform the ritual.”

- - - - -

The cell door opened and a guard entered. Faith put down her magazine and sat up.

“Hey, Lehane, new cell-mate for you,” the guard said, pulling a slim figure into the cell. “Her name’s Dawn.”

Season 5 would have been MUCH more interesting if the story had gone this way. Another perfect AU drabble! The only thing that could make this better is if an entire Season 5 AU would be written. :)

With Ben getting posted to the Correctional Facility as the new prison doctor...

Thanks! If the Order still sent a monk to Sunnydale, as a red herring to mislead Glory, the Scoobies could still be in deadly peril...

Ah, yes, nice. I'd have liked to see Glory turn up in prison, looking for her key. Can you imagine how her attitude would go down with the guards? *g* Not to mention her acolytes.

Ben as the new prison doctor, perhaps?

Excellent idea - I'd completely forgotten that Faith was around!!

Also I get to use my mythbusters cartoon version icon :)

OMG poor Dawn!!!
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: February 9th, 2009 08:09 am (UTC) (Link)
Of course the Dawn that the monks' spell created this time wouldn't be the same as our Dawnie - older, for a start, to be in an adult prison - but because the Key has to be pure she would have to be a Dawn who'd been wrongly convicted.

Wouldn't have been a bad idea, with Glory concentrating on Buffy.

Would have been a little unexciting to watch though, imo.

I don't know; a relentless, implacable, invincible enemy attacking the Scoobies for a purpose that would mean nothing to them whatsoever and with no way of stopping her other than the almost impossible one of killing her.

Awesome.
Any chance you'll develop it into a longer story?
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: February 9th, 2009 11:00 am (UTC) (Link)
Thank you!

I don't have the time to do much more with it but I might do another drabble or two as follow-ups.

The big mystery of S5 is why they didn't use Faith at any point. Nice idea!

Maybe Eliza Dushku was busy with other things, a limitation that doesn't affect fic-writers, or maybe they didn't think of a way of working her into the plot.

Thank you!

Yes that would have been a very logical plan for the monks to follow. Love how your mind works.

Yes; walls, fences, and armed guards all just as interested in keeping unauthorised people out as in keeping the inmates in. Not that they could have stopped Glory but they could have turned Jinx etc. into Swiss cheese quite efficiently.

Thank you!

Hahaha, awesome. That really is an interesting direction to take things.

Glory wouldn't last five minutes in prison, either. =)

Thanks!

Glory wouldn't last five minutes in prison, either.

She was indestructible enough to escape unhurt from a concrete building collapsing on her, and to shrug off being hit by a truck. I don't think the prison population would be a problem for her. Ben, on the other hand...

Thank you! I might well do a drabble or two as follow-ups but that's all.
