Appeal to the hive mind

Happy birthday to winsomeone and to wickedplum21

During the night hours between one a.m. and six a.m. Manx Radio plays music on shuffle from a hard disc. No human DJ, no introductions, and so there’s nothing to tell you who is performing. This week they’ve been featuring a cover of Dead Or Alive’s ‘You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)’, from the Eighties, performed by a female singer who seems to fall into the same classification as Leslie Feist or Regina Spektor. I’m sure that I’ve heard the voice before; slightly American accented, somehow deep and high both at the same time, but I can’t place it. It’s very different from the original version; not electro-pop at all, slowed right down and turned into something quirky and unusual. Nine times out of ten I can find out anything that I want to know on Google in seconds – I’m a fourth Dan black belt at Google-fu – but not this time. Anyone have any ideas?

ETA: booster17 has found it. Thea Gilmore. The slight American accent must be fake as she's from Oxfordshire.

If you pop over to the Rhapsody site you can do a search for covers on that song. I did and came up with several names:

Nicole Eitner

Monica Dore

Debbie Moore

Jessica Simpson

I'm kinda willin' to bet it isn't the last one listed.

ps, Rhapsody will let you have twenty five free listens, give it a shot.

No it won't.
We're sorry. We have detected that you are outside of the United States. This service is currently only available to residents within the United States.

I don't think that it's any of those. I already knew that it wasn't Thalia or Jessica Simpson, the Monica Dore version differs from the original only in that it is much worse, and although I couldn't find Nicole Eitner's version I found other songs by her and the voice is wrong. I can't find the Debbie Moore version anywhere but the name doesn't seem to fit the genre. Thanks for trying!

I listened to her cover while I was searching for the good one - or at least I listened to the first forty seconds or so before I couldn't stand it any more and switched it off. The best word to describe it is, I think, 'vile'.

There's an except of the Debbie Moore version over on iTunes for a free listen - definitely sounds slowed down.
