Access All Areas returns
After a long gap, due to various factors including my sudden desire to write a Conan crossover and my wife's desire for new furniture and the consequent necessity to repaint the living room walls, we have completed the next chapter of our co-written Spike/Dawn fic Access All Areas. At long last we present Chapter 17.

Happy birthday to calove. I would have had that as a scrolling banner, with flashing lights if I could work out the coding, but sadly Cass doesn't seem to be around on LiveJournal any more.

Belated Happy Birthday to psubrat

In other news; Gary Gygax has died. He may well have had more influence on my life than any other single individual outside my immediate family (I don't credit Dave Arnesson with as much of the creation of D&D as I do EGG). Farewell, Gary, may St Cuthbert of the Cudgel watch over you, and may you find yourself in Heaven playing D&D with Al Gore, Stephen Hawking, and Nichelle Nichols for eternity.

I think everyone will miss EGG - he wasn't exactly my favourite game designer, but without him the hobby probably wouldn't exist.

Agreed. 'Traveler' and 'Empire of the Petal Throne' just didn't have the potential to catch the mass imagination the way D&D did; and every other RPG was influenced by D&D one way or the other. Maybe another branch of skirmish gaming would have evolved into something vaguely similar in the same way that Chainmail evolved into D&D, but I think that the odds are that there would never have been an RPG hobby as anything other than a tiny minority hobby. Even computer games would have developed very differently.
