The Earth is Round

Happy birthday to theohara and to toysdream

It's still the 1st in their time zones, although no longer in mine.

Today (or yesterday in my time zone) wasn't a productive one for writing. I spent a good chunk of the day at the hospital undergoing a pre-operative assessment ready for the internal examination on the 8th. They gave me comprehensive instructions as to what I am allowed to eat on the 7th, and medicine to take on that day to clean me out internally; it is not going to be a fun day. The procedure itself isn't going to be fun either, although at least I will be sedated for it, and I'll probably be pretty much out of it on the 9th too. Oh well.

Just want to tell you I could not admire you and your postive attitude more. You really ROCK. Good luck and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I don't see it as me having a positive attitude. More as me whining about it to everybody and hoping for sympathy when really a lot of people have far worse things to endure.

Well, its FUNNY whining = and sure doesn't seem to be a pity me sympathy bid. Your attitude is outstanding and I think it will be a major factor in your full recovery.

This shows how crazy my life's been, but I hadn't realized you were ill.

*hugs* and *crosses fingers* that they'll be able to resolve your health problems with minimal trauma. Hopefully you'll make a full recovery in no time at all.

Take care of yourself.

I deleted my original reply because it occurred to me that I referred to something that was in a F-locked post of yours.

Instead I'll just say "thank you".

Take care, I'll be hoping you breeze through.

Thank you!

Although as they are going to be pumping me full of air to enable them to move the camera around 'breeze through' is perhaps too apt an expression!

I too did not know you were unwell. I'm so sorry. I will be thinking of you on the day.

I have a feeling that you're about to undergo The Procedure Which Shall Not Be Named that F and I have both been avoiding since turning 50, so our hats are off to you for your courage.

Thank you!

I'm not sure what 'The Procedure Which Shall Not Be Named' is but what I'm having is a Colonoscopy.
From: (Anonymous) Date: November 2nd, 2006 07:00 am (UTC) (Link)
If it helps to have some anecdotal support... I had my first colonoscopy a couple of years ago. I remember feeling a bit tense at the beginning, but there was no actual discomfort - then the sedation took hold - then suddenly it was all over! Really, the sedation had the subjective effect of making the whole thing seem to have begun and ended within a few seconds. Gives the song "I Wanna Be Sedated" a whole new meaning :-)

Yes, that's the one. Frank and I've been ducking it, as though it were something devised by Torquemada (which is erroneous info on our part--I hear the lead-up to it is worse than the thing itself! The internal cleansing, that is.)

But I still say you're a brave man.

Both of my parents have had this done. It wasn't their favorite way to spend time of course ... but they survived none the worse for wear!

I'm glad for your parents. But Frank and I--we're afraid, and we're procrastinators. Not a good combination.

Good luck. Anytime someone has to get something to clean them out internally, that's not a sign that pleasantries will be in order; I'm pulling for you.

It won't be a party, but going by my parents' experiences shouldn't be torture, either. At least you will be sedated! Good luck & wishes for a not-too-bad experience. :)

If you're going to be sedated but not unconscious, I advise taking your I-pod (or equivalent) so you can't hear the inane drivel the technicians talk while carrying out the procedure.

Best of luck.

I don't have an iPod or equivalent; I usually spend all my time at the computer and so I have no need for any portable source of music. Until now.

Thank you!

Just wanted to wish you well for your examination tomorrow. Hope you're not feeling too awful today, with the not eating and cleaning out, and my thoughts will be with you.
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: November 8th, 2006 12:08 am (UTC) (Link)
Thanks! The cleaning out hasn't been too bad - I'm used to the effects as it is the main symptom of my illness - but I'm terribly hungry!
