There is a panel in the abominable Issue 34 that appears to show Spike, together with Buffy, and it’s labelled ‘soon’. People are assuming that this means Spike will be appearing in a forthcoming issue; some are looking forward to this, others are dreading it. It occurs to me, however, that they may be making a false assumption. Remember this comic is drawn by Georges Jeanty, the worst artist the Western world has seen since before the fall of Constantinople to the Turks in 1453, and just because it looks like Spike it doesn’t mean that it actually is Spike. It could be meant to be Gordon Brown, or Tiger Woods, or Nelson Mandela.

Current Music: Malcom McLaren, "Soweto"

Harrumph; unfair to Byzantine art, much?! Their stylised/non-realistic art was the accepted and comprehended form of visual communication - the problem with Jeanty is that, in the context of our modern world, barely anyone has any idea what's supposed to be going on...

Including Joss and Brad Meltzer, sadly...

From what I have seen of my flist's reactions to #34, the presence of Brown, Woods, or Mandela could do nothing but vastly improve the situation.

Sounds like it would be a barrel of laughs with those three :)

You, sir, are badly in error. The assumption that any brown haired and squiggle faced girl from Jeanty's pen is Buffy cannot be sustained. Rather it is more likely the panel shows Gordon Brown and Amy Madison facing off against cuts to the NHS Budget And Skin Grafting Recaptures Tax Act of 2011.

Or from what I've seen of the comics, which granted is not a lot, even Gordon Brown and Amy Winehouse....

Or Lenny Henry or Fu Manchu.

Good point.

You know, I occasionally think people are too hard on Jeanty, and then I realize that I totally misread one page in this issue because I couldn't tell Amy and Willow apart. :P

I didn't recognise Faith in the current issue until I read stormwreath's review and went back to the comic with that knowledge; I then concluded that, yes, it could well be Faith. Or possibly Amy Winehouse.

I vote for Amy Winehouse.

Oooh-- now Gordon Brown might get me to start reading the comics again! Tiger Woods though has worn out his welcome...
