Drabble: They're Taking The Hobbits To... Cheyenne Mountain?
I’m working on a drabble incorporating my worst ever pun but it isn’t ready yet. Neither is the long-awaited final chapter of ‘Life Resumed’ but that should be finished later today. Really. In the meantime here’s a drabble that is pun-free but still as silly as anything I’ve ever done. 100 words, PG, just Dawn and Andrew talking about fanfic…

They’re taking the hobbits to… Cheyenne Mountain?

Dawn looked over Andrew’s shoulder at the screen of his laptop. “You’re writing Stargate: SG-1 fanfic?”

“Indeed,” Andrew replied, his Teal’c imitation perhaps the worst ever. “A Lord of the Rings crossover. SG-1 go through the Chapa’ai and emerge in Rivendell just in time to join the Fellowship.”

“Shipper fic?” asked Dawn.

“Indeed,” Andrew said again. “Jack/Sam.”

Dawn frowned. “I thought maybe Teal’c/Éowyn or even Aragorn/Sam. Isn’t Jack/Sam a bit, well, predictable and stale?”

Andrew shook his head. “I don’t think so,” he said, “and it has the advantage of clearing the way for Daniel/Frodo.”

Hee! As silly as one could wish for. And I flatly refuse to admit how long it took me to work out the 'Sam' joke. Sheesh!

I think Samantha Carter would be paired with Gimli. Here follows an extract...

SG-1 stirred and murmured with astonishment, and Jack gazed at the Dwarf in wonder, but the Major smiled. “The guys around here tell me that the skill of the Dwarves is in their hands rather than in their tongues,” she said, “yet that is not true of Gimli. For none, except maybe Martouf of the Tok’ra, have ever made to me a request so bold and yet so courteous. And how shall I refuse, since I commanded him to speak? But, tell me, what would you do with such a gift?”

“Treasure it, Major,” he answered, “in memory of your blasting the orcs of Moria with a P-90, and if ever I return to the smithies of my home it shall be set in imperishable crystal to be an heirloom of my House, and a pledge of good will between the Mountain and the... other Mountain, until the end of days.”

Took me a while to get the Sam joke, too. The induced image made me *headdesk* so hard, I was puking from both the image and the concussion.

Sorry! But Andrew might be writing PG-rated stuff with Jack O'Neill and Sam Gamgee only at the hand-holding stage. Try and think of it like that, anyway.

You are a bad man and you run a bad railway :-)

Also, you can bet your SGC-issue boots, that someone, somewhere has written it. Probably not very well but... :-)

ffutures has written a good, although very short, SG-1/LotR crossover - but he (wisely) avoided the shipper aspects.

Anything can be written well with the right author of course - it's just that Sturgeon's Law dictates that it often won't be :-)
