Drabble: Background Check
I’m too tired to do another drabble in the Illyria series, or to finish the next chapter of the Willow/Vampire Willow story, and so here is a light-hearted drabble instead. BtVS Season 5, set around the time of ‘Buffy Versus Dracula’, or in the flashback scene at the beginning of ‘No Place Like Home’. Just how did a bunch of Czech monks create such a convincing California teenager? 100 words, G.

Background Check

A score of TV screens flickered in the monks’ cells. Brother Dusan watched ‘Clarissa Explains It All’. Brother Tomas watched ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’. Brother Jaroslav watched ‘The Little Mermaid’. Brother Kazimir had headphones clamped to his head as he listened to Britney Spears.

The Abbot rushed into the cloisters. “The Beast has located us,” he shouted. “It is time for you to put your research to use. We must create the host for the Key and send her to the Slayer immediately.”

“Thank the Lord,” said Brother Josef. “After two hours of N’Sync death will be a welcome release.”

Snerk! And as the mother of a teenaged daughter I know just how Brother Josef feels.

Fortunately our own daughter didn't like N'Sync or Britney - she was into Linkin Park and System of a Down at the time. Hmm - that might have been even more depressing for poor Brother Josef...

Did you live through the Spice Girls?

My mother took my daughter to see their movie. When I asked my mother how it was, she said "that was the longest hour and a half of my life."

She was never into that sort of thing at all - I vaguely remember a boy band called 911 when she was about 9 or 10, but from then she was never into any sort of 'pop' as such - so we avoided things like the Spice Girls, too. For which I was eternally grateful!

I even went to a couple of Linkin Park gigs with her in 2003 when she was 14 and 15 - and they were very, very good!

He should be glad that the Twilight books aren't around yet.

If they had been no doubt the monks would have told Glory that Stephenie Meyer was The Key.

So horribly probable! You too have suffered...

You didn't mention wall-to-wall
FRIENDS
or
Dawson's Creek
, though.

D-d did watch 'Friends' - but only upstairs on her computer - we had wall to wall Linkin Park and System of a Down too, rather than N'Sync and Britney - than goodness!

I have a mention of 'Friends' due shortly in the Willow/Vamp Willow fic.

As Giles put it..."aggressively cheerful music sung by people chosen for their ability to dance."

Yes, but The Shadows had their very own dance, and they still managed to be good ;-)

I found watching 'Sabrina' and 'Clarissa Explains It All' with my daughter quite acceptable. She could have done a lot worse.
