For those about to rock...
On the writing front: I haven’t done much so far on these nights off. Mainly I've been going back through existing fics and editing out Englishisms. I’m still feeling under the weather (my chest hurts when I cough) and the World Cup is a major distraction. I’ll try to get some actual writing done tonight.

Fic search: I'm searching for a vaguely-remembered Spuffy (I think) fic. Set in an AU S6 IIRC. Spike breaks into the prison where Faith is held and (with her co-operation) kills her so that a new Slayer will be called to take some of the pressure off Buffy. The Scoobies jump to the conclusion that Spike's chip is out - but it isn't. I can't remember what happens next. Not much to go on, I know, but does it ring bells with anyone? ETA kcarolj65 has correctly identified it - thank you!

Other news: My immediate boss works part time as a presenter at Manx Radio. A regular Sunday morning slot plus occasionally taking over other shows to cover for holidays (vacations) and sickness. This week he’s been asked to do the Saturday night Rock show. It’s not one of our work nights and so he’s able to do it.

The problem? He knows nothing about Rock music. The solution? He’s asked me to be the music consultant.

On Saturday night I’ll be at the Manx Radio studios controlling the play list. Four hours of my taste in music will be inflicted upon the Island.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Now Speaker, isn't there something about using your powers for good, and never for evil? *g*

Hope you feel better, poor dear.

With great power must also come great responsibility.

I don't think that choosing the playlist for a rock show counts as great power so I can be as irresponsible as I like.

re:the fic search

It reminds me of something, I think I saw it at the Vampire Kises' Archive, but I'm not sure.

Oo Oo! OO! I remember that one!It was the Council who had Faith in the one I remember: drugged and restrained and very depressed. No idea when, where or who but remember being interested and it being some years ago. Please let us know if/when you find it as I would like to revisit it.

Thankyou!!!! I went, I saw, I reread (and remembered fuming at the short chapters the first time but hey) and I enjoyed. Kudos to kcarolj65!

Rock On

I'll have a listen. I had to turn down an offer to do a slot on Doctor Who for the entertainment programme due to flu - was very disappointed to have that opportunity slip by. :(

The Spousal Unit had radio shows at KAOS-fm Olympia, 89.6, The Evergreen State College for years and years; I only got to control the playlist when I went to the station with him right after Sam was born.

It's a power unlike any other.

Julia, having avoided radio since the last all-night gig turned into weird conversations with Portland's homeless who wandered into the offices of KBOO

Hope you start to feel better soon. Glad I read the comments through first, as I knew exactly the fic and where to find it, but someone else has beaten me to it so I don't have to struggle to remember the tag to make the link work. Result!

..... We salute you - will there be plenty of AC/DC for the islanders to listen to? Maybe you should rig up some sort of webcast so we can all enjoy your musical choices. Have fun. :)

Thank you! There is a webcast at http://www.manxradio.com/

10 pm to 1 am UK time; three hours, not four as I said at first.

Oh how very cool!! Congratulations S2C!! If you're streaming on the internet, I'd love to listen to what the island is listening!

**I remember that fic you mentioned but the name does not come to mind**

It's not your taste in music I'd be worried about. It's the puns. Do they translate well over radio? ;)

Feel better soon!

I don't think I'll be able to manage any puns as I'm a silent partner.

Yee haw! A pretty much captive audience! The best kind!
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: June 23rd, 2006 01:36 am (UTC) (Link)
Actually it's only 3 hours; I miscounted because I was told to be there at 9 but the show doesn't start until 10.

And the audience can escape just by Touching That Dial.
evilawyer From: evilawyer Date: June 23rd, 2006 01:45 am (UTC) (Link)
NO! Don't think like that. They can't escape the rock music instruction they will receive. Why, just today, a former student of mine called and wanted to retain me. After 4 years, he still remembers how I bent and twisted his mind to my will and responds appropriately. I am avenged, er, I mean, rewarded for my years as an instructor. The world isn't your oyster, it's your classroom to in which to instruct, my friend. And (if you're a closet meglomanic like me), your realm.

And, by the way, Big Country? "In A Big Country"? Excellent choices. Exceptional taste. (Maybe we should hire ASH for the commercials?)
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: June 23rd, 2006 02:10 am (UTC) (Link)
Funny thing is that "In A Big Country" wouldn't make it into my top ten of Big Country songs, although it would make it into my top 100 favourite songs list. It wasn't even their biggest hit in the UK.
evilawyer From: evilawyer Date: June 23rd, 2006 02:24 am (UTC) (Link)
I know they were prolific, but here you had to hunt them down like rabbits gone to ground to find anything other than "Big Country" and "Fields of Fire". Still, I loved "Big Country". Not sure why. It just made me feel vast expanses when I heard it. It was the bagpipe-sounding guitar, maybe? My only other knowledge of bagpipes comes from movies like "Still Crazy" and my father's very, very sparce comments about his WWII European theater experiences {to his children; we learned a bit more about what he said from the P.M. --- always as iffy source about that sort of thing}, which sometimes included reference to soldiers in British units a who played the pipes and how loud and whiney the the pipes were. The very word "bagpipes" gives me the feeling of sound bouncing off canyon walls. Reverberation=vast in my mind.

Hope you're over your cold.

You know, I wish I could hear that broadcast. If the songs and groups you mention in your writing represent your taste in music, I think it'll be interesting and enjoyable.
speakr2customrs From: speakr2customrs Date: June 23rd, 2006 01:37 am (UTC) (Link)

Thank you Prince Charming! I'll double check but I think that's about 1:00 p.m. or so in Nevada and it's a Saturday so I can come into the office (still not hooked up at home, ha) and listen without disturbing anyone. Yay!

"Well, this is fascinating."

Xander looked up from the bag of day-old pastries that he had brought to the research meeting. "What did you find," he asked Giles.

"According to this article, on July 24, between 10 PM and 1 AM UK, the entire population of Mann packed up and moved."

"Is that some village on a Hellmouth?"

"No, Mann is an island."

Yes, I can sink that low.

Have fun on Saturday.
